What is a dental crown?
A crown is a tooth shaped prosthetic that is placed over an existing tooth to provide protection, strength, or cosmetic improvement. Crowns are designed to look and act like natural teeth and fit in with the alignment of your existing teeth.
When is a crown necessary?
You may need a dental crown to protect a weak or damaged tooth, cover a tooth as a substitute for a large filling, mount a dental implant, cover a tooth that has had a root canal, or to hold a dental bridge in place.
What is a bridge used for?
A bridge is a permanent dental fixture made up of artificial teeth that are fused between two crowns. The crowns are affixed permanently to natural teeth on either side of the empty space. With a bridge you will be able to restore your ability to chew and speak. You will also be able to have the same structural support as with your prior natural teeth that will ensure you have a properly distrubuted bite as well as maintain the natural look of your smile.
What happens if a gap between two teeth is left unfilled?
If a tooth or teeth are lost, the remaining ones on either side may shift towards the center in an attempt to close the gap. The bone structure of the jaw may also begin to erode because there is no longer any root attached. Dr. Lily Nahri and our team will create a bridge and crowns to support the surrounding teeth and maintain your dental health.
